Learning how to stay positive has an immediate effect on your health, happiness, and success. In this article I will lay out 10 east steps for staying positive, regardless of what is going on around you.
Step 1: How to stay positive begins the minute you wake up in the morning. The simplest way to do that is to spend a few moments in gratitude. Find things to be grateful for and give thanks. When you feel gratitude, you are naturally positive. You can’t help it!
Step 2: If you are serious about learning how to stay positive, establish a zero tolerance policy for negativity. Avoid negative people when possible and NEVER EVER allow yourself to get drawn into gossip.
Gossip and negativity are like cancer that grow in the mind. But they are totally avoidable -- and curable -- to anyone choosing to be happy.
If you can’t avoid being around negative family members, do not engage in their negativity, rather ignore it. When the opportunity arises switch to positive or neutral subjects. Always look for the bright side.
Step 3: Create a mantra of daily affirmations that help you stay positive, hopeful and happy. Use them in the shower, at the grocery store, while driving and brushing your teeth. Do them silently or aloud. Whenever you catch yourself starting to slide, use your mantra to get you back on a positive track.
Step 4: Create a list of empowering questions and use them. Such as “What is the best thing I can do for myself today?” “I wonder if this may turn into the best thing that ever happened to me?” “What is the best thing that can happen?”
Step 5: Use visualization to program your mind for what you want to do, achieve or accomplish. Make a daily habit of “seeing yourself” accomplishing the three most important things you want to do that day. And create the best possible outcome in your mind.

I like to put myself to sleep at night by going through the alphabet and for every letter finding something or someone to be grateful for. It goes something like this: “A for my sister Adrienne – and also juicy, crisp apples. B for Boobie – a cat I loved, who has since passed but gave me so much pleasure. And my Bobba - who is also on the other side. And for a brain that works. “
Of course I am usually asleep before I get halfway through. So, sometimes I just start in the middle of the alphabet somewhere , to give all the letters a chance. It makes for sweet dreams.
