7 Tips to Relieve Stress Instantly

 These tips to relieve stress are focused on strategies that are easy and produce immediate results.

 if your mind goes blank under pressure:

  • Take slow deep breaths with one palm over your forehead and the other palm on the back of your head (frontal occipital holding.) The warmth of your hands and your breathing will help blood flow through your brain. Under stress our breathing typically becomes shallow so make sure you breathe deeply but not so deep that you hyperventilate. Your breath should feel natural but a little deeper than usual
  • Move!  There are lots of choices here. Some ideas: Go for a brisk walk, run in place or do jumping jacks. Focus on your joints by rolling your neck gently, circle your arms, wrists ankles and legs. Stretch your wrists and hands by bending your hands back and forth and applying some gentle pressure. Stretch out your toes.

If you are on your feet all day

Use these tips to relieve stress that will also increase blood flow:

  • Lie with feet up against a wall – as close to 90 degrees as you can get so that you can reverse blood flow. Focus on your breath. Put your hand on your tummy and feel your belly rise and fall as you breathe. That will ensure that you breathe deeply.
  • Bend over and touch your toes. Bend your knees as much as you need to. Keep a flat back (don’t round over) hold that position for  about 30 seconds then roll up, uncurling your spine very slowly and gently so that your head uncurls last.   Repeat the process 3 -5 times

 Use these tips to relieve stress anytime:

  • Turn off electronic gadgets and sit quietly, fully appreciating the stillness. Get into the habit of having your phone turned off for several hours at a time.
  • Practice progressive relaxation,  dynamic meditation or mindful meditation for a few minutes. Even five minutes of these mind power techniques can make the world of difference 
  • Engage the senses The goal is to fully experience the world through your senses. You can light some incense or a scented candle. Focus on a flower or plant. Listen to relaxing music.
  • Apply Mindfulness: Mindfully eat a raisin or a small piece of fruit. Chew and swallow very slowly—really tuning your sensations fully to the experience – observing and enjoying every sensation. These are just examples so you get the idea. This practice will take your mind completely away from your problems and give you some mental stress relief. 
  • Use affirmations for stress reduction to replace negative self talk

Practice these tips to relieve stress to help you relax:
