and the Placebo Effect

To me the most interesting and telling aspect of body mind health, is the placebo effect. It is the easiest way to explain to people how pain hypnosis and mind healing work. And in some cases why people believe some supplements and vitamins for weight loss work when in fact, science has proven otherwise.

It is fascinating to consider that in ALL clinical medical trials, throughout history, placebos get results…

If you’ve ever looked at the data of clinical trials for popular drugs, pharmaceutical companies will always cite the effects of the drug compared to a control group.

One group gets the actual medicine, and the control group gets the placebo, -- a sugar pill or saline injection with no medical value. 

However, it’s not the case that the medicine gets results and the placebo has zero results.

It’s always that the Placebo gets SOME results.

If you think about it -- the notion that ANY results come from a patient consuming a fake medicine is curious.

Since the nineties I have been teaching people meditation for healing i.e. mind visualization combined with deep relaxation hypnosis. The results have been remarkable. I attribute their success to the same “power” as that of the placebo.

Is it mind over matter? What IS the secret power of placebos that affect body mind health?

However you choose to think of it, one thing IS certain: this mind power is not unique to anyone. It’s something you already have and can use right now, after you learn how.

On both a conscious and subconscious level your thoughts and beliefs are building blocks for your life.  You can eat right, exercise and live a healthy lifestyle but if your mind and emotions are a mess, your body will likely "act" out.

But don’t take my word for it. ..
Try this thought experiment and see for yourself :

  • First, think about something that you caused you stress – really get into the memory of it—and then pay attention to how you feel. 
  • Where in your body do you feel it? Do you want more of it?
  • Now think about something you can easily recall that made you happy. What does that feel like in your body?
  • Compare the two different feelings. Which made you feel better?

Even at the most basic level, what you think about immediately affects your body mind health. What you focus on can change your mood and your ability to enjoy life. That is why positive power thinking can make you well. While worry, stress and anxiety can make you sick. More on ways to relieve stress
